A Closet Clean Out That Keeps the Fun

5 closet clean out concepts that make room to think, hold the joy and make getting dressed (and shopping) easier. Plus, the outfit this edit brought me. And 5 pair of uber-cute commuter sneakers.

All my shirts (and mini skirts!)

When chaos ensues I fold. I stack. I organize. I seek control of my comfort zone…my closet. Such a moment bulldozed it’s way into my home in July. There was an extremely broken bone (my son, not me) and with it a crushing and immediate end to summer - no camp. no climbing. no water. “seated arts and crafts only,” we were told…totally reasonable request for a 5 year old boy, no? 🫠. To deal with the sudden lack of schedule and roller coaster of emotions (for all of us) that went with it, I took to my t-shirt drawer, as one does.

I was about to spend A LOT of time in a LITTLE apartment with a frustrated, dis-regulated child. So naturally I had to make that space perfect. (Psychotic much? Maybe. But we all have our thing.) I started thinking…could I edit down by half? Enough to make room for a full-sized keyboard (losing a dresser) since maybe my son could mess around on the instrument one handed?? That’s a seated activity, right!? Edit down enough allow me to think about anything beyond the piles in front of me?

I go through these phases occasionally, and I’ve been asked to write about how I store and edit countless times. So here we finally are. A long requested newsletter by so many of you - how to choose what stays, what goes and a look at what we actually need, while retaining the fun and personality that makes fashion so…personal!
