I Scroll So You Don't Have To
Welcome to my shopping newsletter. A physical outpost for my mental filing cabinet of what's good out there.
I've spent close to two decades finding the most perfect versions of authentically distressed jeans, white t-shirts and vacation-worthy skirts for a living. Friends, colleagues and sometimes strangers on social media constantly ask, ‘What should I buy?!’
With so much out there, I’ve turned pickiness into a career, hunting for ultimate versions of just about anything one could put on their body. I’m critical down to the tiniest details. For example:
-Great shoe! But why does the outer curve like that?
-No, burgundy will not be your new neutral, even if it is on sale.
-That shirt collar is too small to look expensive.
Here are five recent finds for friends that pushed me to put it all out there:
A WEDDING GUEST DRESS WITHOUT CUTOUTS A friend recently needed a dress for a destination wedding that wouldn’t break the bank and was age appropriate. After filtering out smocking, teensy florals, puff sleeves, barely there slip dresses and cut out details, this was no easy task. The winner? An on sale (yay!) one shouldered number from Johanna Ortiz
A dress for an actual grown up attending a destination wedding in Italy free from cutouts, liberty florals and smocking. THE ULTIMATE LAPTOP BAG My college roommate, now a successful hedge funder, was helping her boss shop for a last minute birthday gift for his wife. The jewelry they custom ordered was delayed…it needed to be major, but still understated and painfully cool. The winner? The Loewe Flamenco’s new large size. Quite possibly the chic’est laptop bag of all time?
FORGETTABLE EVENT DRESSING My oldest work friend, now a fashion director herself, needed a look for a work-related cocktail party in Austin. 105 degrees, fashion-forward yet minimal enough to not clash with the brand hosting the evening. The winner? A flowy Khaite number that had enough detail to be interesting but wouldn’t steal the show.
A pretty dress that is simple enough to *not* steal the show A QUALITY WHITE TSHIRT CHEAP ENOUGH TO SPILL ON A marketing exec for the priciest cashmere you can buy wanted a perfectly boxy, but not oversized white knock around T-shirt, because lets face it, even if you have access to the best of the best, you still just want something you’re not scared to spill on. The winner? Muji’s plain $9.90 crewneck.
THE BRIDE WORE PRADA She texted me a ring shot. Unbeknownst to her, I had been watching a paillette covered Prada two piece on Vestiaire, waiting for the right bride to come my way. Ordered, fit perfect. The lesson here. I am watching out for you, even if you don’t know it yet. So get in touch!!!
Hope you have a little fun here each week - and find something to wear, so you don’t have to think about it or scroll anymore. You have better things to do!
Lots of love,
Becky
