Welcome back to 5 Great Things, our monthly installment of what’s good around the internet (that you hopefully haven’t already seen all over the place.) Shall we get started?
The Best Breton Ever!
A red striped shirt, complete with sailor flap!? We may as well just take the summer off. See you in Sept! Who needs anything else? I kid. Don’t worry, I’ve already plotted out next week. :) I bought this tee at the new Comme des Garçons store in Paris in Feb. I haven’t worn it yet but I HAD to have it when I saw it and I am itching to wear it. Today is a high of 75, so I’m thinking today is IT! Comme (hehe) on sun. We are ready for you!
The Sweatpants I Will Never Again Live Without
I have a thing about street clothes once I’m home for the day. It’s mostly a NYC thing…my sister says she does this less since she moved back to MN as she gets around exclusively in her own car. But I’m making my way through my day via subway and taxi and I just don’t want to sit on my son’s bed and read him a bedtime story in said jeans. And since you know I’m on the eternal hunt for an Entireworld replacement, I recently ordered these sweats. I was moved to order by the color and the shape and won over for life after feeling their insane softness. I’ve worn them everyday for two weeks and was so frazzled on what to do on laundry day I could barely function. Which is slightly insane since I seemed to have been fine in all my other sweats two weeks ago before I owned them. Only editor’s note: they are EXTREMELY long. I took a scissors to the bottom and cut off about four inches. So here is your permission to do the same. Just literally cut them. Do not spend one penny at a tailor. You can do it!
Jamie Haller Strikes Again!
You’ve probably already seen the caramel-y brown new bit loafers from Jamie Haller all over the internet. But Can we take a minute for this ultra dark brown shade, which, sorry to say, is even more dreamy!? More summery.
I was recently hunting for a non-suede summer-ready work shoe for a (male) client. So many loafers and lace ups felt wintery. And what I ended up being drawn to - to wear either sockless or with white pants was a dark brown, textured leather slipper-style loafer. It got me thinking about what to wear when I want closed toe in the summer. And dark brown leather (something so soft you can tell just by eyeballing it) came out on top. When you can see the flexibility and softness of the leather - meaning it doesn’t look stiff or shiny - it gives off relaxed vibes. It’s still a traditional enough shape to wear with classic “work clothes” or to offset more casual summer garb. Plus the dark color is nice against white and pale patterns. Ok, enough already. It just is it!
The Heart of the Ocean
I’ve always wanted to be a summer jewelry girl. Coral beads, a tan, a string of shells. But for some reason, I just have always felt like it’s cosplay on me. Who am I kidding. I can barely go out in 68 degrees without SPF, lest I’ll look like a lobster. Yes, shell jewelry has always seemed like something for golden shouldered girls in spaghetti straps. But I’ve got the Deszo itch. And like any good mosquito bite, the more I scratch (aka look at instagram) the more I want to be THAT GIRL. There are plenty of seaside-inspired pendants out there but finding one that feels whimsical yet not cheesy for a beach-girl-in-training is another task. A joyful selection below.
Bet You Didn’t Know You Needed ANOTHER Tote
I see your straw totes, and I raise you this ripstop, packable carryall from Epperson Mountaineering. Aside from its general cool factor, this weighs nothing, expands and contracts to your needs tote in perfect summer colors can easily be thrown in your carry on (it would be a real shame to come home from Italy without new table linens or sandals!!). It will perfectly off-set a romantic breezy dress in the city all summer when you’re too sweaty to put a leather strap on your shoulder. And it will happily hold all your turkish towels after a day at the beach with the family. Plus, you know how everyone is adding charms to their bags now? This functional climbing bag has these fun loops that are just screaming for beads (and my kid’s waterbottle hook.) I’m partial to the pale yellow (color of the season!) but they have a great tan, grey, etc etc etc.
Signing off for today. Happy Sunday! May your to do lists wait until tomorrow.
Yours TRULY,
Becky
What a great 5 things. So sad the t was sold out when I opened the letter. That collar gave me all the feels.
Thank you for being the straw that broke the camels back on those Jamie Hallers. I’ve been looking for a new casual loafer for spring / summer / fall
Love the idea of just cutting off the bottoms!
