A month ago, I jokingly shared with two friends the story of how I picked up my diamond wedding band on the way to the airport for the wedding weekend and proceeded to text my future husband the amount he owed me. They were not surprised. And though we were laughing, one replied by sharing that she recently told her husband to Venmo her for her birthday gift. And honestly, I did the same thing again for those Chanel flats during the holidays.

So it was at this same meal, when pointing out that I don’t do a “Mother’s Day Gift Guide” for 5 Things because it’s the moms who read the newsletter, not the gift givers, that we realized I was thinking about it all wrong. This is not a promise for an annual edition, BUT, I thought it would be fun/funny to acknowledge for a moment, the way us moms need to plan ahead to ensure a day that can actually be enjoyed. To take the pressure off our expectations of all the things: relaxation! appreciation! alone time! family time! It’s honestly a roller coaster of a Sunday!

The best reimbursable gift is obviously to book a massage for Mother’s Day weekend if you can. It will ensure the day doesn’t feel like a freefall, when all of a sudden, it’s day of! If you’re in NYC, I am extremely fond of Fouquet’s which has a great little pool. There is nothing I hate more than a hotel spa that reserves use of the pool for hotel guests only. Never again Mandarin Oriental! I digress. Wherever you are, it doesn’t matter where you decide to book, just get it on the shared calendar and send him/her the bill!!

However, since 5 Things is a fashion newsletter, some additional ideas and eye candy below that fit the bill including: The best sweater for right now. The perfect chain necklace for all those initial charms you’ve been collecting. A well rounded bag edit. The shoe of the moment. And the chicest new names in workout (adjacent) wear.

A decadently drippy spring sweater

This is the sweater shape coming for us this summer. And these three are my favorites. Attersee’s golden brown tunic sweater with side slits which will lay perfectly over black Gala-style pants (be it The Row or Vince or whichever silky slacks you have in your closet). Giuliva Heritage’s asymmetric v-neck in the most scrumptious heavy cotton knit. It’s such a beautiful neckline - interesting over a crisp white tee and elegant over a bare collarbone. And for the everyday, Another Tomorrow’s cotton knit with a wide (but not too wide) collar and loose (but not too loose) sleeves. I am partial to the white, but it comes in five colors.

From left: Attersee (which I have in a medium), Giuliva Heritage, Another Tomorrow

I think I found the gold chain we’ve been looking for…
