I was just sitting here complaining that I couldn't decide what to wear today - another freezing cold New England winter day. And now I know. Something exactly like this. I think I have every element, albeit in other brands. Leading into white Lilly pulitzer jeans, grey Dudley Stephens tunic layered w/ a chambray shirt. Blundstone's are always ready. This is why I love you!

Blundstones: closets on both coasts, extra in car. Extra at barn.. ? In storage. And the mystery pair that left big black chunks all over carpets last winter until the sole just dropped off & revealed canvass innards .. also.. I think they are all in different sizes & range from 6-25 years old (maybe the crumbly ones were older.. ?? 🤣🤣

This is exactly why I find your Substack so very informative and helpful. I have discovered brands that are awesome, new sites to shop from, as well as how to put every thing together. Thanks for also including your sizes as I find it lets me gauge what size I should go for to get "the look".

BTW house projects are the worst during but the best after. So sorry for the disruption but it will all be worth it when it is OVER. I hope that is ASAP!

Well Becky, I thought that this would be boring but is not. I love the navy sweater idea (I have an old cashmere one from 360 that is on it's last legs sadly) and love the idea my big J Crew cotton one over a loose Kule tee. But the winner for me is the Aeyde Max boot, which are so good I now have two pair! Aren't they sooooo comfy? I did size up for a non squish thick sock toe situation.

Dickies! Flashback to NH 7th grade when they were in the trinity with Levi's and the original Madewell painters pants. I'm so excited to rediscover them. Love everything about your emergency outfit.

One of my ALL time favorite posts from you Becky.. between moving (too much).. horse, dogs, remote work where deshabille NOT a thing.. travel, I find myself SO often in these piled on comfort clothes.. & I’ve been steps away from that Donni sweater.. but in my current phase have been unable to pre-order as... I have ZERO idea where I will b after March 1st. Gotta get those dickies I guess .. (reminding me I have violet Stan Ray painters pants & I’ll likely end up in those wherever I land 🤣🤣⭕️❌⭕️❌

Happy reno 💪🏼💪🏼

Buy the Dickie's! Mine came today and wore a 6 like I almost always do. A wee bit short but fine with boots or keds in summer. We can be twins @debo!

I lived in these pants during my junior and senior years in high school in 1971-72! I am glad to see they are still being made and appreciated.

Same here in the early 80’s. I always liked the fit which was much more forgiving than the other pants I wore back then - my 501’s.

Hi. I so enjoy reading your Substack. I too put thought into my ease relaxed look that is always utilitarian. My painters pants are likely older than you😳. I do feel validated seeing you with your clever, clean simplicity that is quietly refined and ageless. I opted for bankers grey in sweater over wht t or Heather grey and a black topper. (My coloring is horrendous for most camels). Thanks for your wit and advice❤️❤️❤️.

I'm glad you were able to keep your sanity!

I'm not usually a nit-picker, but... 'alas' usually is used before something bad happens. Like "alas, we didn't make it to the concert in time". So you should be happy you all survived, no 'alas' about it!

Becky, I appreciate your ability to make lemonade out of lemons. Good luck with the door frames. One idea for giving us your thoughts: how you choose the under layer - e.g., long sleeve or short sleeve tee, collared shirt, rugby shirt, etc. You make a simple t shirt and sweater combination so interesting

Great q! I always like something to feel slightly unexpected or proportionally off. And the "too big" sleeves sticking out of this sweater just seemed to feel right to me. I wish I had a concrete rule but it's more of a feeling. All I can say is, every element is always considered when I get dressed, from the under layers to the proportions of the accessories...I'm obsessed. :)

This newsletter came just as I was thinking I need to replace my Blundstones and wondering what to replace them with - for the easy pull-on, terrible-weather, casual school drop-off / kick-around boot! I went down a Schnee rabbithole but perhaps the answer is just to buy another pair of Blundstones! Would love any thoughts on these - your summer weekend uniform saved me (shorts + collared shirt + sensible sandals), so I’m hoping you’ve got a winter one in the works too! (Perhaps it is the painters pants + shirt + sweater in this newsletter?)

What is the camel coat you’re wearing in the last photo? That’s the camel coat I want :) looks like the Reiss one you linked to in the coats newsletter…but that one is sold out now so hoping it’s something else!

I wash on delicate and lay flat to dry. :) Same with my cashmere sweaters. The only exception is boiled wool which you have to hand wash....made that mistake with a very expensive Jil Sander sweater once and still cringe thinking about it...it now fits my son. :(

Becky, I’m sad for you. I bought the Jil Sander boiled wool from Layering Up, Looking Presentable, and it has been the sweater of all sweaters of my life.
