I hope your loved one has a speedy recovery. I'm sure you being there is its own kind of balm. I don't know if this is appropriate to add to the Five Things chat but I came up with some brakes for myself in this season of spend, spend, spend, that I thought I'd share. I set up a daily email to myself that is just the subject line: Don't spend any money. It pops up at about 9:30 am. It doesn't mean groceries and it doesn't mean Christmas gifts - I know what it means. It's helped me turn away from all the intense marketing and released me from the usual FOMO. Food for thought! (I'll likely shut if off sometime in January!)
So appreciate this email and I’ll add another: shop local! We’re not traveling this holiday season, so instead of purchasing from large corporations that don’t need more money I’m buying everything from small businesses in town.
I love your content, Becky. I stumbled upon your newsletter last year at this time and loved your piece about what to wear at Thanksgiving (you gave me “Thanksgiving trousers” which I relentlessly tell my family about 🤣). Best wishes to you in cool MN, from me in cool nextdoor ND.
Seriously- shoutout to all the caregivers. I’ll spend time thinking of and feeling grateful to them instead of drowning my feelings in consumerism. Your newsletter continues to be delightful, thoughtful, and surprising. Take care of yourself! Though the stuff of (my) dreams, taking care of others and each other is hard work
Hi Becky. Love your column. I see you're from Minnesota. When I was in high school I had a friend named Shelley Malinsky. Any connection. If so, pass on regards. I remember her as pretty and well-dressed, possessing many pairs of stretch pants, which were then the rage. She visited me once -- in Fargo.
Becky, What a lovely gesture when your loyal readers were missing our usual Sunday entertainment from you with the great shopping tips to get one replete with such good advice. I am really focusing on buying fewer and better quality items from local stores and hopefully not made in China!
Sending healing thoughts to your family members full and complete recovery! Hospitals and the medical system is it's own separate reality I have found. Huge respects to the doctors and nurses in the world. Happy Thanksgiving!
Healing hugs and care to your loved one and you. I hope our weather here stays relatively cool and calm! Thanks for the helpful reminder on the unrelenting holiday marketing. I'm trying really hard to stay the course, buying from local, small, and ethical stores.

What will I do with my extra "Five Things" Sunday morning time? I will reread a few posts for pearls of styling wisdom.

I've been doing the same! Love supporting my community, even if I'm spending a little more.
Becky, Best wishes to your family member for a speedy and full recovery. ❤️🩹 Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Xoxo

I love this, thanks for the reminder to take a step back from Black Friday madness!
I get so overwhelmed by the gift guides that I end up not spending a dime.

Best wishes for your beloved, and I try to finish my Christmas shopping by Halloween.
Now that is beyond impressive!!!!
I hope your loved one is ok! Randomly, I went to the University of Minnesota. Hopefully the state is treating you well.
The best advice that I needed to hear this week 👌 thank you!
