I have struggled with that for years. Wanting things that were my taste and not my style is the perfect way to put it. I realize now my subconscious way to try to incorporate any new piece into my wardrobe before purchasing is to negate this issue. Maybe that's growth. My instinct now is always a capsule wardrobe though having a few fun and trendy pieces never hurt anyone. Also, Prada, along with Fendi right now I am into. I can relate to not knowing how to incorporate and resist the urge.

Always and forever a fan of your understated elegance and very much appreciate this newsletter in my inbox every Sunday. Ready for the new suggestions for the new year.

xx

`Your comment about style v. taste is absolutely spot on. I shall write it on a post-it note. It perfectly sums up the dilemma most women interested in fashion and dressing themselves live with. Thank you.

I second the request for a closet clean-out post.

Just discovered your newsletter and I love it. (Gill Shakespeare, London UK)

Yes please to a closet clean-out post! Also a true gift would be if there’s any way to do a very granular primer on hem lengths... for example, I love a cropped trouser but suspect most of the ones I have hit me just slightly too high on the shin-ankle (shankle?) so they miss the flattering mark and end up looking ill-fitting... but I hang on to them anyway, because in theory I like what they’re about. How can I stop myself before the next bad purchase and/or fix what I’ve got so it works better? Does it work to just let the hem out a little bit? But how much? To the ankle bone? Just above? And I suspect it correlates somehow to the width of the pant leg at the hem as well, or the relationship between the width of the pant and the width of the leg that’s inside them (not to turn this into a math problem)...

Thanks for all the style & shopping tips and good luck with the birthday party!

Ah, there it is! Style vs taste. My closet is practically empty at the moment. I gathered all that were purchased and cast aside this year (each piece wore me, ha, another epiphany, thank you) and donated them. Someone hit the jackpot.

2023 is my year for finding pieces that complement my personality and lifestyle with emphasis on color and comfort.

I'm happy I found you. Happy New Year!

I like this concept and have been thinking about it in regard to fragrances lately… there are plenty of musky or spicy fragrances I like the smell of, but they don’t suit my personal style. I might gift it to a loved one, but I’d never make it my everyday wear.

Very nice point of view, Becky.

I'm an interior designer in Brazil. My newsletter today is about choices. We like a lot of things in decoration, but the key to a beautiful house is to make choices. We can put in everything we like.

It's the same thought you have regarding clothes.
