Hi Becky! I have a question that i’ve always wondered, please - do designers speak to each other? As in, for example, butter yellow being a common theme across shows - is this discussed, or just coincidence? Thanks!

I doubt it. But a lot of them operate on the same frequency. I have other friends who are very interested in fashion, as I am and we seem to gravitate to the same newness at the same time. I think it's the same in designer world. If I had to guess. But I would imagine they are probably a bit more competitive with their ideas than plotting together....again, though, hearsay!

Also, most go to the same fabric/textile shows or view the same textiles from supplier showrooms so the best stuff often gets picked up on.

Thank you for this! I am inexplicably drawn to the MiuMiu docksider/boat shoe. I have an email out to the folks at Quoddy to see if I can customize something to create a similar look. I think the key is a thin sole, which works because these will never see the inside of a boat.

Becky. It is good. It is sturdy. I bought the green coat last year in 38. Oversized enough that I could fit a Moncler hooded sweater puffer under it 🙊..

I was so obsessed I even got that big wool ?tunic?scarf?cape to go over it. I wore in NYC & New England bayside winter.. still adore.

Mango had a great dupe that I wore to barn.. but not quite as much of a “swing coat”

Both v. Waterproof & classic.

My plan is to continue to max out the wear so I may tip toe into the giant oversized Prada as well (1/2 hoping I completely hate it IRL like that cocoon duffle coat FW 2023 (was so relieved not to love & let it go)

Long answer.. I was shocked not to see that coat everywhere last year~ definitely one of their best outerwear pieces xo

Coats!! I am seriously vexed by outerwear rn - can you talk about wool coats when you get a chance? Looking for something classic and versatile for this winter (haven't owned a wool coat in years!) and am overwhelmed by cuts and colors. Is the long tan coat overdone? Is navy too dark with jeans etc? Would love to know how you shop for warm and functional outwear that still looks chic!

First...I am so tired of the no pants look...and also thanks to Mrs. Prada with Miu Miu, the pantyhose pulled up to reveal seam and waistband look. Just ridiculous and unattractive.

Second...butter yellow. Love that I bought (at the end of the season last year) a soft, easy to wrap, long butter yellow scarf. Trying not to buy much of anything this season...I am overflowing with great sweaters and just donated 15 pairs of jeans...some with tags.

yes the no pants look is not real. relief to be able to look at it that way! as a styling trick.

This was SO useful, thank you ❤️! Boat shoes though? Absolutely not 😂

Why not? I was so not that type of person but found myself last week searching for similar :)

I will never not associate these with midtown bros (especially the kind who wear boat shoes without socks and *with* dress shirts and belted khaki shorts in July) and it's all just too triggering to bear 😊

But I support your sartorial choices, whatever they may be! x

I know 😁 Or for us, from Europe, is dads and Italians but I’m curious to try as it is something I thought I would never ever. it’s interesting as a concept of wanting things that were unimaginable in your own sartorial spectrum, no? Oh, I’m sure I’d get a lot of comments.

Fashion is a fickle and punishing mistress 😂

I am european, btw. My mum is english, my dad is french. "Dads and Italians" really made me laugh.

I will follow your foray into boat shoes with interest. Send photos! x

Hi Becky, Back in May you said the long trench is dead and cropped was the way to go. Now you love the long fluid (lightweight) coats that look just like trenches to me :) Please, are you able to clear up my confusion? Thanks for sharing your expertise!

Ha! Touche! I've been wearing my cropped trench all fall, love her so much. This is a trend recap of what to expect in the coming seasons, so of course going to include a change in silhouettes. And like Dr. Becky always says: "two things can be true!" I love these coats and I love my cropped trench. :)

The cropped trench = genius.. long classic trenches are not my friend.. long wool wrap coats are great.. who knows

Re the barn jacket, Fat Face have a swing-y version of a wax jacket this year, in black or khaki. I bought the black and have been loving it - it feels like early 2010s tumblr/ indie sleaze is fully back and I’m so here for it

I missed seeing you looking drop dead Becky gorgeous in something long fluid butter yellow with yards of FRINGE!
